Tangalle

Tangalle

This resort, located 190 km from Colombo, sits on the southern tip of Sri Lanka in a romantic bay. The entire coastline is lined with sandy white beaches. In the area, you will find plenty of shops and restaurants. In the town, you can visit several landmarks dating back to the Dutch colonial era, turtle hatcheries, or a little further away, Yala National Park.

Around Tangalle, you can take a trip to the Hoo-maniya geyser, a geyser forcefully gushing from a 20-meter-deep rock opening. You can also explore the Wewurukannala Temple, home to the largest Buddha statue on the island measuring 50 meters, or the stunning Mulkirigala temple and monastery, located north of Tangalle. Another point of interest is the Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary, situated between Tangalle and Hambantota.

Tangalle is an ideal place to experience the city's hustle and bustle and the daily life of the locals. The markets in Tangalle offer a fascinating mix of various fruits, vegetables, and spices. The bus station may seem chaotic at first glance but is organized by local route guides. In the town, you can visit the house of a former president or stop by a local eatery to try typical Sri Lankan cuisine.
