Yala / Uda Walawe

Yala National Park

The main tourist attraction when it comes to Sri Lanka's national parks. It is located on the southeastern coast and covers an area of more than 126,000 hectares. If you are lucky, you may spot elephants, leopards, axis deer, wild boars, monitor lizards, mongooses, crocodiles, buffalo, monkeys, sloth bears, and many other animals. More than 150 species of birds also live here. 

Uda Walawe National Park 

If you travel to Sri Lanka in the winter and want to see elephants in their natural habitat, Uda Walawe National Park is the right choice. Covering an area of 31,000 hectares around the Uda Walawe Reservoir, the park is said to rival Africa's savannah reserves with its herds of elephants (up to 500), wild buffalo, sambar deer, and leopards.
